Yet another record of instrumental hits meant to cash in on the bossa novacraze, or L.A. session musicians at the top of their game? Certainly fans ofHoward Roberts, once a recording artist for Verve, will not want to miss thisone, as the cool guitarist lends solos to all but one of the tracks here, ausual assortment of Jobim and Gilberto tunes and soundalikes. No stringsanywhere on the album, and arranger Jack Marshall keeps things light andlively. Easy to find in cut-out bins and certainly worth the dollar or twoprice.

For his eighth album, the flamenco guitarist is somewhat in a different directionand leaves room for his musicians to produce a particularly rich environment.Even if you can hear mostly original instrumental compositions, there are alsotwo huge covers. The album begins with Screamin 'Jay Hawkins’ classic"I Put a Spell on You", beautifully interpreted by Toronto femalesinger Emma-Lee. Another classic comes from the French repertoire, Jacques Brel’s "Neme quitte pas". The album was recorded with old microphones to recreatethe atmosphere of the Miles Davis era. The result is an intimate and maturealbum that is listening beautifully in the late hours of the night. This isanother great album by this excellent classical guitarist.

Stepping away a bit from his signature rhumba flamenco guitar style on The BlueGuitar Sessions, his eighth studio album, new age guitarist Jesse Cook broadenshis canvas with jazzy ballads, soft blues, and smooth, atmospheric instrumentalpop to make what is probably his most broadly accessible release to date.There's plenty of his sweet guitar playing here, so fans don't need to worryabout that, but on tracks like the dreamy version of "I Put a Spell OnYou" (which features a languid and sultry vocal from guest Emma-Lee) andthe elevator bop jazz piece "Miles Shorter," Cook expands his rangeinto new territories.

When I got the parcel with Midnight Rhumba in the mail I went: "What? Idid not order this one!" ....(yet). "I ordered Mistico". Well,both almbums colors are similar. Kind of brownish. So I guess that I hit thisone and not the other one. But Hey!!! The plan has been always to buy them all,so whatever. And still....Oh My! Midnight Rhumba is gorgeous! It is colorful,warm and spicy. So beautiful. "I will buy Mistico next month". Toselect Midnight Rhumba instead of Mistico was a so amazingly gorgeous mistake.No regrets! Never have them with Johannes. I need to make a parenthesis here.(I do not know how could I miss someone like Johannes in my life all theseyears, since he was discovered and launched his so successful career). My lifewith other artists' music was being somehow colored. But after I discoveredJohannes on Pandora, he stayed with me forever. Su musica es un Ensueno.
